Thank you to the hundreds of participants who brought ingredients to Fr. Bennett Hall and made sandwiches for the hungry in Hartford this past Sunday. We delivered 903 sandwiches (nearly double last year’s quantity!!) and dozens of homemade St. Valentine’s Day cards to ImmaCare and Mercy Shelters and the Cathedral Food Pantry. With such a windfall, we also made a spontaneous delivery to McKinney Shelter, whose clients were so grateful to have fresh meat and cheese sandwiches on Superbowl Sunday! Thanks to broader publicity, several people from the greater community joined our sandwich ministry this year, to “do something kind for people in need.” At each sandwich-making session, we talked about the factors that contribute to hunger and homelessness (poverty, abuse, mental and physical illness, etc.), asked for God’s blessing on the food, and prayed that our gesture of love would alleviate some of our recipients’ suffering. Mark your calendar for next year’s Sandwich Sunday, Feb 2, 2020!

They do way more than knit those beautiful shawls! Much appreciation to the women of the Prayer Shawl Ministry for providing over 80 "brown bag lunches" for the guests of ImmaCare shelter. Packed with thick cold cut sandwiches, water bottles, cookies and candy they were happily received by all of the guests. Led by Sandy Fyler , we heard it was a fun time as the group gathered together and assembled the bags. Good works should always be accompanied by smiles. Many thanks.
